The hotel is situated in a listed Landmark Building in the heart of the Jugend Style area of Ålesund. The extension is placed partly underground on the vacant site between the Hotel and the neighboring Hotel.
The facades of the extension has carefully been formed to suit the surroundings so the focus is kept on the original buildings, yet the new building has it's own identity.
In spite of the relatively small 200 m2 building it has a very efficient layout: The front of the building, facing the harbor, has an exclusive Conference room / Chambre Separee with facilities for 25-30 guests. The room is fitted with facilities suited for both conference as well as banqueting and fine dining.
The back of the building, fully under ground, contains a wine cellar, delivery and storage for the kitchen as well as staff facilities. A goods elevator services the back-of-house functions with the loading area on the street level. The elevator is fully integrated in the pavement and is not visible when not in use.
In spite of the loading area, and the goods elevator that 'disappears' into the ground when not in use, the roof is layed out as a public space giving spectators the possibility to view the picturesque Brosundet Harbor and the surrounding area.
